Story Workshops
Inspire action and seed cultural transformation through storytelling.
As food, land, and culture workers, nourishing our communities and a liberatory future starts with the stories we tell ourselves and each other. Storytelling is one of our oldest cultural technologies. And sharing stories can expand our collective imagination to shape what is possible. When we bring our values, experiences, and truths to our work through our stories, we can help supplant insidious narratives of fear, exploitation, and supremacy.
Join food, land, and culture workers to explore your relationships to food, land and community, workshop your story, and build lasting relationships with fellow storytellers and facilitators.
Let’s grow a world centered in care and mutual belonging through the stories we share.
The Story Workshop Experience:
What to Expect
Each Story Workshop includes two 2-hour group sessions that meet on consecutive weeks, and an optional 60-minute 1-on-1 story facilitation in-between group sessions*. They’re wonderful opportunities to surface and hone your story, and to meet and learn from fellow food, land, and culture workers, who are actively engaged in transforming food culture.
Sessions are participatory, including solo and group reflection, ideation, and conversation. These workshops are grounded, relational, and generous listening spaces. In all sessions, facilitators offer body-based, somatic practices to encourage deep presence. We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds to join us.
*In addition to session time, all participants are expected to dedicate 2-4 hours of their personal time over the course of the workshop to crafting, revising, and practicing their story.
-
2 hours
In the first workshop session, participants will meet fellow storytellers, get familiar with Food Culture Collective’s facilitation process, and begin to unearth and explore elements of their 5-10 minute story through guided prompts, and solo and group reflection. -
1 hour
Participants can opt into being paired with an FCCLTV-trained facilitator to guide them through the storytelling process. Between group workshop sessions, facilitators will meet with participants 1-on-1 to explore their personal connections, memories, and stories to help them craft a 5-10 minute story to share with the group. -
2 hours
The second and final workshop session offers participants an opportunity to share their stories with the group and connect with fellow participants through reflection and generous listening. We believe storytelling is a reciprocal experience, and all participants are expected to be fully present to offer a supportive experience for all storytellers.
What does the workshop cost?
We offer a sliding scale for course fees. If you have the means to contribute at a higher rate, we invite you to opt into a higher contribution. Within the abundance of community, we have what we need to sustain this work and continue making it available to those who can benefit. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
